SSL Certificate failure

I have been troubleshooting my Exchange Server 2013 External Mail flow after receiving conflicting reports that the server didn't support TLS even though the option is enabled.

While in the 2013 EAC I went to Servers >> Certificates, inspected the properties of the Certificates EAC can see on my server.  One of the SSL certs is issued by Go Daddy, and used to allow my Clients to access my Helpdesk APP run from my server from outside.

The SSL cert domain name is Mail.mydomain.com.au

  1. I checked the service that the cert is assigned to,
  2. Saw IIS as the only service listed,
  3. I checked the box for SMTP, clicked save,
  4. When prompted "do you want to replace the current....." I declined thinking a backup first should be taken of the config.
  5. Now when I go into EAC >> Servers >>Certs it shows the cert is assigned to SMTP
  6. But........ now email has ceased being received by my mail server.
  7. When I run an SMTP test from MXtoolbox I get "SendSMTPCommand: You hung up on us after we connected. Please whitelist us. (connection lost)"
  8. I tried to uncheck the SMTP option in Certs, but it wont deselect.

Am I mistaken that it would be as simple as assigning the existing GoDaddy cert to SMTP

Do I need go further with binding the Go Daddy SSL cert to SMTP, or do I need to reverse something to correct this.
