inbound messages are having the recipient address rewritten and I want to override this

users. The message then gets routed to a past users mailbox that has an smtp address for each of the past users.  The default address on this mailbox is pastusers@cs2.co.uk.   This was working fine until we put on Exchange 2013.  We now notice that the auto reply doesn't work.  The reason for that is it depends on the knowing the recipient but we've discovered that Exchange is replacing the recipient address with pastusers@cs2.co.uk.  Investigation shows this  behaviour can be controlled by Edge server transport rules.  The thing is although we're running Exchange 2013 SP1 no Edge server has been configured.

The question is then how to override this behaviour so the recipient address remains as per the original?

in case it's not clear here's an example of what I mean.  Say for instance that we still receive emails for Joe Bloggs long after he's left the company. We want to intercept messages to jbloggs@cs2.co.uk, auto reply to the sender that Joe Bloggs no longer works for us and pick up that message in the past users mailbox which as jbloggs@cs2.co.uk as one of its smtp addresses.  What is happening now is jbloggs@cs2.co.uk is replaced with pastusers@cs2.co.uk.

TIA

James Bedster
