winmail.dat Attachments are received whether TNEF is disabled or not

Hi,

we've got some issues when sending emails to some linux recipients, that attachments or s/mime signed emails are converted to the dreaded winmail.dat attachements.

On Exchange 2010 i've just configured the corresponding remote domain (or the default one) to disable TNEF sending to this mail domain.

Apparently with Exchange 2013 this setting does not work anymore. With setting the parameter "TNEFenabled" to $false, the recipients still get winmail.dat attachments.

do you have any idea how to work this out?

Kind regards,

Peter

Missing Email

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me understand what has happened here.

"User  A" is a Director of a company who gets a copy of all external emails in to a specific department. There is a Transport Rule setup for this. Also "User A" has no personal rules setup what so ever and only has default mailbox folders.

An external user sent an email to "User A" and "CC'd" to "User B" (User B is a member of the specific department of which he receives a copy), though on this occasion "User A" didn't receive the email at all, though "User B" did.

"User B" has had to forward the message onto "User A"

The Tracking logs within Exchange 2013 show that the email was delivered.

I then used : Get-MessageTrackingLog -ResultSize Unlimited -Start "March 31 2014 | Out-GridView

Using the Filter placed the Senders Email address which showed it being delivered also.

Using the MessageTrackingLog there is 2 sections saying HAREDIRECTFAIL and 1 section DUPLICATEDELIVER.

This company uses emails heavily to do business and now I being asked how many more emails are going missing that they don't know about.

And just to mention I have just recently upgraded them from a SBS2008 environment to Windows 2012 / Exchange 2013. Everything thing else is and seems to be working fine.

Thanks

Exchange 2013 TransportRoles\Data\Temp filling up disk

I have a single multi-role Exchange 2013 server and it would appear that it's not properly maintaining the temp files for the transport service.  I still have all those folder locations at their default and the problem folder is c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp

I never had a problem with this in Exchange 2007 but I am used to running a PowerShell script nightly to clean up the IIS log files.  Do I need to do something similar for this temp folder?  Is there a setting I can adjust so that Exchange will limit the size of this folder itself?  If I stop the transport service and delete the files here will I lose anything?

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange 2013 not receiving external mails

Hi,

I recently installed Exchange Server 2013 in my organization. This is our first exchange server. I installed and configured server using instructions from technet. The problem is that exchange server is not receiving mails from internet. I am able to send and receive mail inside organization and to send mail from organization to external recipients.

Exchange server is behind Firewall and NAT, and i'm using SMTP port mapping from firewall WAN IP to the internal server IP.

When i telnet to server on port 25 from outside of organization, server normally responds.

Any clues what might be the problem ?

Outgoing and Incoming Mail Issues

Hello,

I've recently set up a new home server running (at current) a trial of the Exchange 2013 Server to setup some Exchange Mailboxes to replace the web mail we're currently using via our domain host.

For setup info, I have a home server machine setup with the Domain Controller by itself and my Exchange and Lync servers on their own individual VMs. All running Server 2012 R2.

Everything installed and was set up correctly (ie. no errors thrown out) and linked without hassle to my DC machine and thus Active Directory. Checking the /ecp was able to easily add mailboxes that were auto assigned to my AD users I had set up.

I have also been able to access both /ecp and /owa externally (as in not on the same network) without a hassle at all.

The issue I've found however, mail refuses to send outside of the domain, kind of... I can send without hassle from @domain.com -> @domain.com internally but attempting to email out to external (or receive from external) doesn't work. Some bounce immediately (my @Hotmail.com account tested immediately bounced), others give 'delayed' responses (my @iiNet.net.au email did this) and others just do not show anything, no failure and no receipt (this was my @gmail.com and my own personal domain as well @korthcore.com).

The odd thing, however, is I can send to my work email address without hassle at all (completely separate) but not receive. The only similarities is that both my home server and the work server are running Exchange. Other than that, they're completely different networks, completely different domains, completely different locations.

I have checked and triple checked all settings, checked the MX Records to verify they are correct and tried numerous steps as found on the TechNet forums / KBases. Any ideas? :)

Exch 2013 Forwarding Mail from local account to External SMTP user

New 2013 implementation... Two Servers (Front End and Back End) both running Exchange 2013.

I am having trouble sending a local AD Exchange mailbox mail to external SMTP address.  I have tried several options.. I have created an "contact" as was required in previous versions.  I have created new AD accounts with external SMTP addresses, I have also attempted to use the scriptlet:

Set-Mailbox -Identity "%AD-USER%" -DeliverToMailboxAndForward $true -ForwardingSMTPAddressexternaluser@mail.com  (%AD-USER% was actual AD Username/mailbox) andexternaluser@mail.com was actual receipient SMTP address (username@gmail.com)

Local AD Mailbox receives the mail appropriately however I have enabled forwarding everyway I know how and nothing seems to work.  If I send mail straight from my account to the destination SMTP address, they get it; just not if it is sent to the local AD account then forwarded via -DeliverToMailboxAndForward command...

Please help.. I have several users that I need to have their mail CC'd to an external SMTP address.. Previous versions of Exchange required a "Contact" to be created and then the mailbox forwarded to that contact, which had a SMPT mail address...

Im not adverse to implementing via powershell if I can just get it to work... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and needed.

Receive connector anonymous or authenticate

$

Hi,

Does anyone know a way to set a receive connector to only request authentication in certain circumstances?

Let me explain the scenario: If you have a receive connector that is set to accept general inbound emails from anyone then it will be set to accept emails from any sender address.

However, if someone is trying to spoof the sender address and they use an email address which is valid within your organisation then it would be really useful if it could request authentication at that point, since emails from internal users should only come from authenticated devices.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Neil

Routing email for an internal Mail server\domain to the Internet in Exchange 2010.

Hello;

We have an Exchange environment with multiple servers and multiple mail domains.  One of our overseas domains/servers is down at the moment because of a damaged cable somewhere in the Pacific...  We would like to be able to route email bound for that domain (xyz.cn) from our domain (xyz.com) thru the internet as their server still receives external traffic.  How ever since we are one great big AD/Exchange Forest email automatically gets routed by AD connection.

Is there a way to send this email out thru the Internet?  We are being told that the "SHIP" will not be onsite for the repair for another week and then it will be 4-5 days for the repair.  any help is appreciated.

Blocked using Blocklist 1

Dear support,

One of our domain accounts was hacked and used to send out spam.

This issue has been resolved days ago.

We still get the following message when we try to send mail:

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
<baanmeubelen.nl #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 Service unavailable; Client host [82.161.66.211] blocked using Blocklist 1; To request removal from this list please forward this message to delist@messaging.microsoft.com>

We followed the instructions more than a few times and got a response aswell (with case number).

But it's been for days now and we're still being blocked.

Is there anything we can do to get our IP 82.161.66.211 delisted from the Microsoft Blocklist?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Paul.

Adding an Authorative Domain and Creating an Address Policy

We've been tasked with receiving email for another domain in our Exchange 2013 server. We need to be able to receive mail and then forward it to an external contact, one we've created in our AD. We won't have a separate Active Directory structure for the new domain.

Is this possible without creating a dedicated AD for the new domain?

Exchange 2013 SP1 on Transport Service on Combined Role stops

$

We have Windows Server 2012 and Exchange 2013 SP1, the Roles are CAS and Mailbox in one box. My problem is when I create a custom Receive connector or edit a custom Send connector, the Transport service stops and mailfow is affected.

What I do to resolve this is to disable the Receive connectors, restart the server, and enable the Receive connectors.

Is this a bug?

SMTP 250 2.6.0 long delay and 451 4.7.0 timeout waiting for client input

We have been having issues with our spam filtering taking a long time sending to our Exchange 2013 environment. We get notifications that they are having problems sending to the server with a message such as:

Apr 1 10:13:46 bolt10b postfix/smtp[20208]: 3fyxmg61Bnz3Sr0f: to=<email>, relay=outlook.domain.com[170.**.**.**]:25, delay=432, delays=57/0/0.47/374, dsn=4.7.0, status=deferred (host outlook.domain.com[170.**.**.**] said: 451 4.7.0 Timeout waiting for client input (in reply to end of DATA command))

Apr 1 10:27:25 bolt10b postfix/smtp[28876]: 3fyxmg61Bnz3Sr0f: to=<email>, relay=outlook.domain.com[170.**.**.**]:25, delay=1251, delays=468/0/0.47/783, dsn=4.4.2, status=deferred (conversation withoutlook.domain.com[170.**.**.**] timed out while sending message body)

So I decided to test telnet command manually while we were getting these messages:

  • telnet <server> 25 (externally)
  • EHLO test.com
  • MAIL FROM: fakeuser@test.com
  • RCPT TO: internaluser@domain.com
  • DATA
  • Blah Blah Blah
  • .

But there seems to be a LONG Delay (maybe 20-30 seconds sometimes) between when I hit the period and when I get the response back "Queued mail for delivery"

blocked senders not working

This is on Exchange 2007 can't find the forum.

Today i received that someone outside of the domain was trying to email in and that the server is responding with an error Reason: Remote host said: 554 5.1.0 Sender denied

We removed the entry for the domain that was in the Anti-Spam, Sender Filtering, Blocked Senders. Then had them try to send again and same error.

The status for "Sender Filtering" is "Enabled". I entered a personal email address in the blocked senders list and it doesn't block it at all.

Any help would be appreciated.
