How to open SMTP for (authenticated) relay

$

Hi,
I have a 2013 installed and working - both with incoming mail and outgoing mail when using Outlook and similar clients.

No problems sending mail from and to either internal or external domains. However, I want to authenticate with the standard SMTP server with a username + password and send e-mail using "standard clients".

I cannot get this to work. In code, when I authenticate through SMTP (user/pass) and tries to send an email from "user@mydomain.com" to "user@anotherdomain.com", I get the error:

Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay.

I don't really know how to set this up to get it working. In an existing Exchange 2007, I had no problem setting this up, but I cannot get it to work in 2013. If I add "*" to accepted domain, it works, of course, but that gives me an Open Relay.

I have a default send connector, mapped to the SMTP domain "*".

How do I configure so that all authenticated users can relay freely?

Exchange 2013 - Unable to send email, Internally & Externally

Hi,

I have new testing lab to play around with which is starting to drive me insane. I have exchange 2013 and outlook 2013. I can receive emails from external domains but I am unable to send emails internally or externally!

Now I would know what to look at if I couldn't send externally, But not being able to send internally has completed confused me!

anyone got any tips where to start troubleshooting for not being able to send internal mail? Once internal mail works I should then be able to get external mail working as well....

Thanks

When i send a email with the attachments to the external and internal members it goes fine. After that when i resend the same message with some modifications getting undeliverable message stating "The recipient could not be processed because it would violate existing security policies #MSEXCH:MSExchangeIS:/DC=com/DC=mydomain:SERVERNAME[578:0x000004DC:0x0000001D] #SMTP"

Any one can suggest me what does it meant?

Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration 2010 server not receiving mail?

Hi Guys

Just done an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration and cant get the 2010 server to receive new email, I can see this a common problem everyone is having and have looked through all posts and cant find the right answer.

I am able to send email its just the receiving part, I have done the following

  • Set receive connectors to allow anonymous users
  • Removed routing group connector
  • Set the port forward on my firewall
  • Created send connector which works fine as able to send mail

I have noticed on my exchange 2003 box there are some emails saying "Messages with an unreachable destination" these seem to be the mails I’m sending

can someone help?

Is RBL on exchange 2013 single server installation possible?

Hi,

Only found this link, which I am not allowed to post :( which is leading me to assume that RBL is not possible on exchange 2013 in a single server installation.

I really do not hope that this is true, would be a shame to not have such an important feature.
Can someone point me to a microsoft article detailing this missing feature.

New Exchange 2013 and no inbound mail flow

$

I'm migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2013.  I currently have two mailboxes moved to the Ex2013 environment simply for testing.  We are using a Symantec.Cloud service for email encryption.  I have my send connector configured with the Symantec smart host for outbound email and my outbound mail tests successfully.

I cutover my firewall to the Ex2013 server so I could test services before migrating the remaining mailboxes.  Everything works except inbound mail.  It's my understanding that the default receive connectors should be configured by default to receive mail.  I have also contacted Symantec.Cloud to verify that they have no knowledge of our internal servers.  MX records are pointed to them and they simply hand off to our public IP address.  I verified that my NAT rules are in place so Ex07 and my Ex13 servers both resolve to the same outside IP address.

I can send internally between the two mailboxes that have been moved.  I can also initiate a manual SMTP transaction from the command line and that delivers to my test mailboxes.  So to be more specific it is the inbound mail FROM the outside world that does not work.

I've read other posts with mail flow issues and people are always asked to run the connectivity analyzer and test inbound or outbound email but obviously with the Symantec.Cloud service in place this option doesn't exactly work for my troubleshooting.

I do have split DNS but I've configured the appropriate DNS zone internally and I have successfully tested OWA, ECP, and Autodiscover internally and externally. Still no inbound mail flow from the outside world. I can also see in my firewall that my smtp rule is getting hits so Symantec.Cloud is still handing off email.  What could I be missing that would prevent my Ex13 server from receiving email from the firewall?  Also, if I go to my firewall and switch my inbound smtp rule back to the Ex07 server then try to send to my test mailboxes, that gets delivered successfully.

Exchange 2003 journal SMTP header

Exchange 2010 adds Internet Headers to a all envelope messages that are journaled (the ones with envelope headers), it uses X-MS-Journal-Report attribute to mark them as such.  Exchange 2003 does not add such a header to internal messages when it performs journaling (with the envelope journaling option enabled).  Is there any other message attributes that identify journaled messages in Exchange 2003 that I can examine?

Exchange 2013: Domain security & Outbound proxy internal send connector

$

Hi!

I just tried to configure domain security in Exchange 2013 in a test environment: two messaging organizations, each running a dedicated client access role and a mailbox server role.

Domain security seems to be configured correctly - recipients running Outlook get that additional icon which says that the email 'was received securely'. In that scenario the mailbox server is sending the mail directly to the recipient domain. So no proxying via the local client access server takes place.

When I try to use the domain local CAS as proxy (Set-SendConnector -FrontendProxyEnabled $true) the mail stays in the mail queue. The LastError on the queue states: '... 451 4.7.3 The admin has temporarily disallowed this secure domain...'. The protocol log of the send connector states: 'Message to secure domain 'dom1.test' on send connector 'Outbound Proxy Internal Send Connector' failed because DomainSecureEnabled was set to false.'

I have no clue where that internal send connector could be configured. Or where the 'Outbound Proxy Internal Send Connector' can be seen.

Or is domain security just supported without using the frontend proxy?

Many thanks in advance!

Greetings,

Nils

Outbound - Proxy through client access server

Hi there,
Just wondering if someone has that situation that I’m currently have... Migration done between 2010-2013

Was using Edge 2010 and now I want to use the Outbound/Inbound Mail flow Proxy through client access server,,,

My Environment:
1 CAS 2013 on the DMZ (AD-SITE1)
2 servers Combine role (CAS, Mailbox) DAG back-end.. (AD-SITE-2)
1 Send Connectors (internet with the Proxy through client access server to $true).

-------
Mail-Flow Inbound:
Firewall --> CAS 2013 (DMZ) --> Mailbox,CAS 2013 (LAN) this is Working GREAT. (I can see my hops correctly
and If I configure to $false just can't get it. $true working Fine)

NOW my Mail-Flow Outbound:

Using my internet send Connector MX resolution or using Smart host same result

Scenarios 1:
Mailbox, cas (combine role) 2013 --> Fiwerall with Proxy through client access server $true or $false = Working

Scenarios 2: (Here is my problem)
Mailbox, cas (combine role) 2013 --> Firewall Block SMTP (my back-End server to test if it proxy or not) and let pass only CAS in the DMZ with
Proxy through client access server to $true = The Mail is Queued. I allow my back-End SMTP outbound Email pass without using my CAS in the DMZ.
At that point I told myself is it because of the combined role? So I build up a second environment with only 1 Mailbox and 1 CAS (no combine role)
I do have the same result!! Telnet on all ports working fine… I do not have any Event saying Proxy is in trouble,,, it just seem that My Internet
Send Connectors cannot connect using the proxy for my Outbound Mail-Flow to my DMZ CAS! I turned my trouble shooting Mail-Flow to Verbose and nothing
special in the logs just normal flows.

Any though?

Receive connector for mail relay

$

Hi,

We moved from exchange 2010 to exchange 2013, we need to configure mail relay connector so that exchange 2013 could receive emails coming from different sources (printer for scan to email, sharepoint....)

I followed an article to create a receive connector for that, I allowed anonymous users (even if on sharepoint and the printer we provide credentials for authentication), We also added the IP addresses of the printer and sharepoint on this receive connector.

It starts working, but after few hours or minutes (it's really random), it just stops working, I looked on error on exchange event viewer, and I found this:

Warning event id 1035 : Inbound authentication failed with error LogonDenied for Receive connector Default Frontend ExchSrv. The authentication mechanism is Ntlm. The source IP address of the client who tried to authenticate to Microsoft Exchange is [Printer IP Address].

From the message I see that the receiver was "Default Frontend ExchSrv" and it is a "FrontendTransport" role. But my receiver I created is a "HubTransport" Role.

I went to the receiver "Default Frontend ExchSrv" and I enabled "Exchange Users" , it started working again. But I don't know for how long.

My question really is that on documentation for the mail relay for printers, It was mentioning to create a receiver with HubTransport role, but it seems it's the FrontendTransport role receiver that is receiving the request. Can someone explain this scenario to me? Do I still need the mail relay receiver I created?

Thank you.

Exchange 2013 - Proxy through client access server not working

Hello All -

I recently migrated our company to Exchange 2013 and noticed that our email was leaving through the mailbox server. I put a check mark in the Send Connector where it says "Proxy through Client Access Server" and my mail is still coming from the mailbox server. How can I go about fixing this problem?

Environment:

1 CAS Server
1 Mailbox Server

Both server are behind the firewall with only port 25 opened to the CAS. The CAS has a Send Connector to a smart host for all messages.

Thank you!

Ryan

Hi,

E2K13CU1 with default settings added to working existing E2K10SP3 organization.

Mail doesn't leave Drafts folder (sent form OWA).

Telnet to server at port 25 responds after MAIL FROM: with:

421 4.3.2 Service not active (exactly - didn't found anything like this anywhere)

I checked DNS (also set custom DNS config in E2K13 ecp, all services are running, no custom AV, no low disk space, no events.

Thank you

Richard

Can't send out of office replies Exchange 2013 internal or external

We have a new install of Exchange 2013 with latest patch roll up.  We then connected outlook 2010 which was already attached to an exchange 2010 server on a different domain. (outlook attached to exchange 2010 in domain A and exchange 2013 in domain b)   We can set out of office in outlook or owa etc and it reflects so in PowerShell on the 2013 exchange server once we do so, but auto replies will not send external or internal. We see nothing in the mail queue. I then created a new mailbox on the 2013 server which wasn't ever attached to the old 2010 exchange server and OoO works fine internal and external...I do see the reply go through the queue for this mailbox.  Could outlook being connected to the other 2010 exchange server have corrupted ooo rules on the exchange 2013 server?  Please Help...

Using Exchange server 2010 only for sharing calendars, contact lists, and email client backup

$

Current configuration - Exchange server 2010 retrieves email, distributes incoming email to mailboxes, sends outgoing mail out, shares calendars and contacts, allows OWA users to login for email, also external users VPN into the LAN and pickup their emails through Outlook when attached through the vpn.

Would like to disable the retrieval, distribution of email by the exchange server, also the OWA feature. Keep the contact and calendar sharing, and use the exchange server to backup our outlook clients.  On the outlook clients add a pop3 client as the default account that would send/receive emails, and keep them in the exchange mailbox.  Exchange would become a secondary account in the Outlook account settings.

Does this sound possible? If so how would you proceed?

EdgeSync producing 5.7.1 "Client was not authenticated"

Hi guys,

I have an Exchange 2007 and 2013 coexistance scenario. I have an Edge Transport, with FPE, and a HT/CAS in Exchange 2007 with SP3 and CU1.

In Exchange 2013 I have 2 CAS and 2 MBX.

Just now I am running tests from my Edge server, checking delivery to a Mailbox Server in 2013 using Telnet. However, I am seeing in the message delivery logs 5.7.1 "Client was not authenticated" when the message is attempted to be sent to the Mailbox server.

EdgeSync is apparently working fine.

Thanks for your help!

When might we see RBL blocking for single servers in Exchange 2013

I am aware that RBL blocking depends on the connection filter and we have lost this great feature in Exchange 2013.

Small and mid-sized orgs found this an amazingly effective way of blocking spam, and reducing server load.

Does anyone know when this feature might be re-introduced?

Hello,

I have a LAN that has an Exchange 2010 server and a Linux Postfix server

Trying to send a message from an account that is on the Exchange server to an account
that is on the Linux server I get the following error:

I am able to successfully send messages to other accounts that are on the Exchange server.
I am able to send mail to the Linux accounts from outside the LAN no problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your time,

Don
